Estate & Tax Coordination
Estate and tax decisions affect how wealth is held, invested, and transferred. Our role is to coordinate the investment side of the balance sheet with the work of your attorney and CPA.
Where Investment Decisions Meet the Estate Plan
We work alongside your estate attorney and CPA, not in place of them. Afton does not draft legal documents or provide tax advice. What we bring is a full view of the balance sheet and the portfolio, so the decisions your attorney and CPA make are reflected in how assets are held and invested.
We review beneficiary designations on the accounts we manage for consistency with your estate plan, and flag where they may need your attorney’s review after a major life or business event.
When assets are held in trust, we coordinate with your attorney on account structure and manage the investments according to the terms your attorney and trustee have established.
We plan for the liquidity an estate may need for taxes, expenses, or distributions, so assets are not sold under pressure when the time comes.
Decisions such as realizing gains, harvesting losses, or gifting appreciated securities to charity are coordinated with your CPA before they are made.
We model how the balance sheet changes as assets pass to the next generation and, when the family is ready, bring heirs into the conversation.
